About Ulrike Ottinger
Ulrike Ottinger is known for her exploration of gender and sexuality and experimental visual style. One of her most appreciated, interesting and transgressive movies Bildniss einer Trinkerin (1979) is considered a classic of feminist cinema as it is entirely about a woman making herself an outsider by self-destructive alcoholism.
Ottinger had a close collaboration with actress and queer punk icon Tabea Blumenschein, who was also her longtime partner and has appeared in several of her films. Their work together has been praised for its innovative approach to storytelling. Ottinger's contribution has helped shape the direction of feminist art and cinema in Germany and beyond.
