Patrick Tosani photographs manufactured objects like spoons, ice cubes or shoe heels, defamiliarizing them by manipulating scale or point of view. Photographing scalps from above, foot soles, and fingernails, he transforms them into disturbing sights of a body usually encountered face to face in an upright position.
"The essential gesture of photography is to isolate a small part of reality by framing, and this choice of framing is a choice of fragmentation." Fragmenting the body by isolating some of its parts, Tosani renders it obscene in a way reminiscent of Jacques-André Boiffard's Big Toe, published in Batailles Documents.
