Klara Källström & Viktor Johansson, Blackdrop Island. S.l. [Stockholm]: B-B-B-Books, 2011. Hardcover, 160 pp. Contains 40 color plates. 29,5 x23,5 cm. First edition, first printing.
Blackdrop Island by Klara Källström is a photography book that documents the author's time in Tokyo in 2008 and her return in 2010. The images primarily depict nighttime locations, with darkness used to create black backdrops that reveal only bits of the scenery. Källström calls the piece "partially a fictional documentation."
A poetry suite written by Viktor Johansson complements the photographs, resulting in the portrayal of two parallel universes within the book's double-folded sections. In September 2011, "Blackdrop Island" was released in conjunction with Klara Källström's solo exhibition of the same name at Fotografiska, the Swedish Museum of Photography.
A very good copy. Shelfwear on front cover. Else fine.
