'Odin welcoming the slain heroes into Valhalla!' Who else but George Quaintance would be able to draw this kind of lurid, mythological Viking erotica for the cover of this Physique Pictorial Fall 1958 issue? The cover was produced using just a preliminary sketch that Quaintance had prepared for the cover of Body Beautiful shortly before he passed away.
Artwork by Ted Kenton ('Tropic Knights', and 'Aces High'), Tristrano, and Kris Studios ('Handy Plumber' and 'Cool Cats on a Hot Night').
Film stills from AMG films Pharaoh's New Slave, The Motorcycle Thief, and The Reluctant Model.
Unbelievable how much beefcake Mizer was able to squeeze into the thirty pages of Physique pictorial!
Bob Mizer founded the Athletic Model Guild in 1945 Los Angeles as a modeling agency for male bodybuilders. Mizer, a self-taught photographer, recruited and photographed the models, carefully listing their vital statistics along with their real names and ages. Mizer sold his photos by mail, advertising them in men's magazines.
